Welcome
Following Milan in 2008 and Barcelona in 2009, the Department of Economics at the University of Oslo is delighted to be hosting the next joint congress of the European Economic Association and the Econometric Society European meeting (EEA-ESEM) in Oslo, Norway,  25-29 August, 2011.

The University of Oslo

The University was established in 1811. Concurrent with the 26th Annual Congress of the European Economic Association and the 65th European Meeting of the Econometrics Society the University of Oslo will be celebrating its 200th anniversary.


The Department of Economics

The Department of Economics at the University has an academic staff of 60 including research fellows and the staff at the Centre on Equality, Social Organization, and Performance (ESOP), which has a 10-year funding from the Research Council of Norway. The department offers programs on all levels, from bachelor through PhD, with a total number of students around 700. The department is able to boast of having had two Nobel laureates in economics: Ragnar Frisch (1969) and Trygve Haavelmo (1989).


The City
Oslo has been a thriving city since the Middle Ages and is idyllically located deep inside the Oslofjord, cradled by lakes and forests on three sides, overlooking the water and the many islands on the fourth side. Oslo can boast beautiful nature, a plethora of art galleries and museums, restaurants and shops. Oslo’s famous opera house is the venue for the conference dinner.
